Antenna House XSL Formatter V3.1 offers all the features (GUI, support for over 50 languages, PDF generation), W3C compliance, extensions and formatting capabilities of our previous Version 2.5 plus the significantly enhanced performance, unlimited document size and SVG support of V3.0. In addition V3.1 offers vector support for EMF and WMF, CMYK support, new output capabilities and numerous other enhancements. In order to provide a solid foundation on which to continue to move forward, to be able to add significant enhancements and to improve performance V3.0 was an entire rewrite of Formatter that built on the experience gained from hundreds of customer installation and years of experience developing XSL-FO software. V3.0 offered speed and SVG support and was suitable for customers who were not formatting documents as demanding as what V2.5 was capable of handling. With V3.1 a customer can now have all the advantages of V3 and V2.5 in one. Conforms to XSL V1.0 W3C Recommendation Antenna House XSL Formatter V3.1 can transform an XML document into XSL Formatting Objects (XSL-FO) by using XSL stylesheets or work directly with an XSL-FO file, format the XSL-FO, and output it to either a PDF file or if on a Windows system directly to a printer. XSL Formatter V3.1 is based on Extensible Stylesheet Language (XSL) Version 1.0 W3C Recommendation 15 October 2001. Highlights New in XSL Formatter V3 and V3.1: •Format virtually any size document With the release of V3 Antenna House Formatter can now format a document of virtually any size whether it is a publication, tens of thousands of invoices, reports or personalized one to one documents. This overcomes the V2 limitation of approximately 4,000 pages in a single document. •High speed V3 is the fastest XSL formatting software available and is significantly faster then XSL Formatter V2. In batch mode V3 can start to produce PDF output immediately from the inputted XSL-FO file. •Multilingual Language V3.1 supports almost any language which is supported by Unicode including Latin, Cyrillic, Greek, Japanese (Hiragana and Katakana), Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Hangul, Arabic, Hebrew and Thai. It offers the abilities to write in vertical mode, to run the text from right to left as in Arabic and Hebrew and also to create multilingual documents with language mixtures on the same page and even on the same line. Multilingual support is further enhanced with the add-on XSL Formatter Hyphenation Option . The Hyphenation Option integrates the very powerful hyphenation algorithms from Computer Hyphenation Ltd., which enhances the quality of hyphenation and greatly simplifies setting up Formatter to hyphenate over 40 different languages. An unlimited number of users can now convert XML to PDF on a web server by utilizing our PDF direct creation engine. Antenna House has added numerous extensions to provide for document information in the PDF, security and many other functions. •New SVG, EMF and WMF support for output module As part of the output module, V3.1 retains the vector information for SVG, EMF and WMF thus enhancing the quality of output images and meeting the increasing demand for delivery of vectors in the output. •Integration Interface Antenna House provides Command line interface, .NET interface, COM interface, Java interface and C++/C interface. The various interfaces make for easy system integration of Formatter with web applications, content management systems, and other software products. The .NET interface and the COM interface are available only for Windows. •Possible to get the .NET native parser output With the .NET Interface when XSL-FO is generated from XML and XSL using an XSLT processor that transformation can now be passed directly and seamlessly to Formatter without passing it through a temporary file first. The .NET and the COM interfaces can now also get the DOM directly without passing through a temporary file. This has the effect of slightly improving performance. Antenna House Workflow XSL Formatter V3.1 can format XSL Formatting Objects (XSL-FO) directly or XML documents by using XSL stylesheets. The output can be directed to PDF or on the Windows version to any Windows supported printer. For the Windows version of Formatter the formatted result can also be displayed in Antenna House's GUI. The following illustrates Formatters workflow: 1.When an XSL Formatting Object is inputted, XSL Formatter V3.1 formats it immediately. 2.When an XML document and an XSL stylesheet are inputted, XSL Formatter V3.1 transforms them to XSL Formatting Object using XSLT processor and formats the XSL Formatting Object. XSLT Processor Antenna House Formatter uses an XSLT processor for converting XML documents and XSL stylesheets into XSL Formatting Objects (XSL-FO). In the Windows version, either MSXML4 or MSXML3 is used as the standard XSLT processor. Windows users have the option to use a different XSLT processor if desired. Solaris/Linux users set their desired XSLT processor through the "Environment Variable" or "Option Setting File." For Windows XP, Internet Explore 6 or later MSXML3 is already installed. There is no need for the user to separately install MSXML3. XSL-FO (XSL Formatting Objects) Conformance •XSL Formatter V3.1 is based on Extensible Stylesheet Language (XSL) Version 1.0. •Implementation of Formatting Objects and Formatting Properties are shown at XSL-FO Conformance. Encodings XSL Formatter V3.1 supports the following FO Encodings. •UTF-8 •UTF-16 •UTF-32 •ISO-10646-UCS-2 •ISO-10646-UCS-4 •ANSI_X3.4 •ISO_646.irv •ISO646-US •US-ASCII •ISO_8859-1 •latin1 •Windows-31J •Shift_JIS •EUC-JP •EUC-JP-FIX •ISO-2022-JP •GBK •GB2312 •Big5 •KS_C_5601-1987 •iso-ir-149 •korean Shift_JIS is regarded as Windows-31J. For a historical reason, Macintosh Shift_JIS and Windows Shift_JIS have no compatibility. As for the incompatible characters in Macitosh Shift_JIS, such as a number in circle, etc., it is necessary to use the character reference. Regarding the XML document and the XSL stylesheet, it depends on the XSLT processor to be used. Enhancements and New Features The following are the major enhancements that XSL Formatter V3.1 offers compared to V3.0 and V2.5: • V3.1 implements many of the XSL-FO Specifications that were not implemented with V3.0 and the conformance has been improved over V2.5. Antenna House XSL Formatter is the most conformant XSL-FO formatting software available. (See also XSL-FO Conformance) • Support for CMYK color and Crayscale have been added. (See also XSL-FO Conformance) • Addition of several new FO-extensions. (See also Extensions) • Enhanced SVG drawing support. (See also SVG Conformance) • Supports Arabic, Hebrew and Thai output to PDF on Windows, Solaris and Linux versions. • You can now select PDF 1.3, 1.4 or 1.5 as the output. Based on the selected version it is now possible to control the corresponding PDF functions through the newly added enhancements. (See also Option Setting File) • V3.1 offers newly implemented support for WMF and EMF. It is now possible to embed WMF and EMF drawings as vectors in PDF files. This function is available with Windows/Solaris/Linux versions. •Functions for setting transparent color PNG, GIF, and setting Alpha channel PNG, TIFF in PDF are added. (Alpha channel is available with PDF1.4 or more.) •The ability to decompress ZIP compressed TIFF files (Photoshop extension) has been added. • An option to output formatted results to plain text has been added. (See also TEXT Output) New functions for the Windows version only include: •Graphical User Interface. •Properties and methods are newly added to the .NET Interface and the COM Interface. For example, the Render method enables to get the .NET native parser output (XML, XSLT output). •Function to input DOM seamlessly by the .NET Interface is added. The binary program generated from this version explicitly links libstdc++.so.5 as runtime-library. libstdc++.so.5 is generally bundled in current released Linux distributions. If your Linux environment does not include libstdc++.so.5, you should get it from your distributor. We have confirmed that following distributions are already bundles libstdc++.so.5 in the usr/lib directory. •Red Hat Linux 8.0 •SuSE Linux 8.1 Maintenance Service Key When a customer purchases Antenna House XSL Formatter V3.1 they receive a Product Key and a Maintenance Service Key. These keys which are copied into the directory where the evaluation software has been installed removes all restrictions from the evaluation version of XSL Formatter V3.1 and enables GIF/TIFF LZW support. Without the Keys Formatter can be used for evaluation purposes only.
