With Antenna House XSL Report Designer's user friendly GUI you can quickly and easily design
complex forms and reports from both of your XML data and TSV/CSV data that is converted into XML data automatically
by XSL Report Designer; then merge your XML data to produce XSL-FO for formatting with Antenna House XSL Formatter.
Now you can even save your designs as XSL Stylesheets!
All with Antenna Houses XSL Report Designer!

Antenna House XSL Report Designer V2.5 is two software products in one. First, it's a design program that greatly simplifies the creation of your complex XML reports and forms with a user-friendly Windows GUI. Second, it's a Runtime Engine that merges the layout and your XML data to produce XSL-FO for creating PDF or print files with Antenna House XSL Formatter.
With XSL Report Designer you can easily map the relationship of each element of your content and how it should be placed, formatted and processed in the final report or form.
To print forms or reports you no longer need to create XSL stylesheets by hand or write complex programs to merge data. Creating the layout can now be done without programming using the intuitive GUI of XSL Report Designer. You can then save your design as an XSL Stylesheet or you can save it as a project file that can then be used with XSL Report Designer's Runtime Engine to produce XSL-FO with your XML data and layout merged into one file. With Antenna House XSL Formatter you can then format the XSL-FO for print, PDF or screen whether it's 1 page or 100,000 pages.
XSL Report Designer is designed to work with Antenna House XSL Formatter both while creating the design and then to produce the final output. Based on the W3C XSL-FO Recommendation XSL Report Designer uses XSL Formatter to handle complex formatting requirements and to preview the forms and merged content while creating the design. Several extensions developed by Antenna House for XSL Formatter are used to meet your complex formatting and output needs. XSL Formatter V4.0 or later, Antenna House Formatter V5.0 or later are prerequisites for XSL Report Designer.
This easy-to-use tool takes the mystery out of and greatly simplifies the task of producing reports and forms for use with XML data and allows organizations to expand their use of XSL-FO, standards and Antenna House Formatter.
You design a template using your mouse and XSL Report Designer's GUI. First, place an object on the page. Then, drag the XML element onto the object. Objects can be text, tables, graphics, lines and barcodes. Finally, set the typeface, point size, etc. for how the object should print. You've created the design. The design is saved as a Project File (".rxl"). You can also save it as an XSL stylesheet (".xsl") .

XSL Report Designer's separate Runtime Engine creates XSL-FO by processing your XML data using the Project File designed in Step 1. The Runtime Engine is a powerful tool that supports advanced processing that cannot be done with XSLT.
With XSL Report Designer you can also save your project as an XSL stylesheet. Then by using an XSLT processor your XML data can be transformed into XSL-FO.

The final step is taking the XSL-FO and using Antenna House Formatter to create a file for screen display, print or PDF output. Whether your outputting 1 page or 100,000 pages Antenna House Formatter can handle your requirements. No other XSL formatting software offers the power, speed and ability to handle virtually any size document like Antenna House Formatter.
The intuitive Windows Graphical User Interface (GUI) offers a true WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) for creating the report or the form layout interactively. Three windows surrounding the Layout Pane helps you to see the tree structure of your XML data, the objects used to build the layout and the properties of each object. (Please click on the image to enlarge.)
The finished form combines variable data, static data and graphics. The design of the layout has the Runtime Engine calculating the total for each item and then calculating the final total. (Please click on the image to enlarge.)
To transform your XML data into forms and reports no longer requires the design of complex stylesheets or programs. It can all be done with your mouse and XSL Report Designer's easy to using GUI.
Complex processing can be specified and executed easily with the wide range of format specifications and built-in functions (string manipulation, doing math calculations, processing conditional statements, XPath specification, etc.) all easily accessible from the GUI.
XSL Report Designer lets you create Fixed layouts for your rigid forms, Flow layouts for forms that have expanding fields to accommodate the data and Label layouts for multiple forms (labels) on a page. |
XSL Report Designer lets you save your project as an XSL stylesheets to then be used with a standard XSLT processor to create XSL-FO from your XML data.
With XSL Report Designer a Project File can be created to format your existing TSV (Tab Separated Values) / CSV (Comma Separated Values) files by converting them into XML data.
Going beyond what can be achieved with XSLT the Runtime Engine offers a wide range of additional functions to process and transform XML data to XSL-FO based on the layout designed with XSL Report Designer. The Java and command line interfaces of the Runtime Engine are designed to enable the construction of systems for server or web enabled formatting of reports and forms. |
XSL Report Designer creates a layout design for printing predefined forms and reports containing XML data. The XML data for printing is assumed to have a constant repetition pattern in the tree structure. It is not possible with XSL Report Designer to design a layout for documents such as general books and technical manuals because they do not have a constant repetition pattern of the tree structure of their XML data.
XSL Report Designer matches the repetition pattern of the XML data to the repetition pattern in the print layout of the form or report. To do this XSL Report Designer supports three types of print layouts; Fixed type, Flow type and Label type.
For additional details, please refer to "Basic concept of XSL Report Designer's layout design".
The Properties list is a comprehensive list of all objects and properties supported by XSL Report Designer. It also lists the level of support for each property using the Runtime Engine (.rxl) and an XSLT (.xsl) processor.
