Q.  The error
"These documents contain subset fonts that have the same name and cannot be merged."
occurs when merging some PDF files with Acrobat4.x or Acrobat5.x. [No.2004111601]
A.

With Acrobat6.x, you can merge two or more PDF files output from XSL Formatter.

The cause where this problem arises in Acrobat4 and Acrobat5 is as follows. The PostScript name of the subset fonts that XSL Formatter outputs takes the form "fixed character string + font name". Therefore, when embedding the subset font for some PDF files, the font name used in the files becomes the same. When you merge PDF files with Acrobat4 and Acrobat5, the name of the same subset font conflicts. Such a problem occurs because of that reason.

It is a content of the support of Adobe Systems as follows.
Error ___Subset fonts have the same name and cannot be merged When Inserting or Replacing Pages in a PDF File - Support Knowledgebase

In XSL Formatter V3.2, this error message has not been output any longer. The PostScript name of the subset fonts that XSL Formatter outputs takes the form "random character string + font name" now.
